Fear Grips In Nakuru As Covid-19 Comes Knocking

Must read

Residents of Upperhill and Eastmore areas in Nakuru East constituency have expressed fears following the recent announcement by the Ministry of Health in which Nakuru recorded 9 new cases of Covid 19. After the weekend announcement by the ministry, wind had spread that a portion of the cases had been traced to areas within the estates. This sent waves of fear across the estates situated in the outskirts of Nakuru Town CBD.

As of Monday evening, sources intimated that a lockdown had been on a host of rental blocks within Eastmore area as the government rushed to curtail the spread of the virus. In contrast to what was days ago a busy road with locals moving about their businesses off the Nakuru-Nyahururu Highway, Eastmore Drive today saw a fall in the number of people frequenting the streets.

Benson Ng’ang’a, a fresh fruits vendor in the area attributed the change to the grim reality that is hitting the estate. “Today people have donned their masks properly without any enforcement. When the virus comes closer home, you cannot ignore it.

We have seen parents restrict their children from going out as much as they did, just about a day ago. It is real.” A few metres from Benson’s stall, sits one of the rental blocks that has since been locked down to prevent the spread of the virus, as it is cited that one of the cases had originated from here. Benson intimates that he, just like other locals in the area, is frightened, as one of the positive cases is that of a neighbor, well known to him.
