The former Chief Justice Evans Gicheru died early this morning. He served as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya from February 21, 2003 until his retire in February 2011.

Chief Justice David Maraga was among the first leaders to break the news concerning the sudden demise of the fallen icon in Judiciary sector.

He joined the public service when he was appointed as a District Officer in Wajir, Gicheru then proceeded to work as Senior State Counsel in the Office of the Attorney General and as an administrative officer in the Office of the President.

He was appointed to work at the court of Appeal and finally served as the Kenyan Cheif Justice of the Kenya.

Maraga lamented, “On behalf of the Judiciary, the Judicial Service Commission and on my own behalf, I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to his family for this painful os. May the almighty God grant them courage and fortitude to bear the tragedy.”

Raila Odinga joined Maraga Joined Kenyans in mourning the death of former Cheif Justice David Maraga.

“I remember Rtd Chief Justice Evans Gicheru as a great legal mind and the man on whose shoulders we placed the burden of returning the country to the Rule of Law after the 2002 transition. He did his best under difficult circumstances. My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” Raila Odinga wrote on twitter.

The Former Prime minister said that Justice Gicheru did his best in very difficult political circumstances in the country.
