The Ugandan presidential election in which Yoweri Museveni defeated Bobi Wine has grabbed international attention.

52% Ugandans turn up to vote for the new president. Electoral Commission head Simon Byabakama declared Museveni the winner of the elections after he garnered 58.64% of the total cast votes compared to Wine who got 34.83% votes.

Museveni’s re-election resulted to demonstrations amongst Bobi Wine and other opposition political parties in the country.

The main opposition leader Bobi Wine and the wife have been under house arrest for sometime after the winner of the polls was declared.

Opposition leaders threatened to take legal action against the elections body and the government for Violating the elections rules.

Unfortunately, the human rights activists and international staff who came to seek audience with Bobi Wine were sent away by the security guards who were guarding the premises.

President Museveni suffered a major blow when the Uganda High Court ruled Bobi Wine’s house arrest to be illegal and orders the gov’t security agencies to immediately vacate the compound.
It is not clear on whether Museveni’s government is likely to bow down to pressure of fleeing Bobi Wine.
