Following the By-election set to be conducted in Nairobi after the Impeachment of governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, political parties were asked to submit their preferred candidates to Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission (IEBC) to be filled in the race for the February 18th 2021 by-election.

However, Raila Odinga’s Democratic Movement (ODM) has withdrawn from Nairobi governor’s race and opted to back jubilee candidate. The development means ODM will back up either former Dagoretti south MP Denis Waweru or businesswoman Agnes Kagure, the duo aspirants whose names are filling party submitted to the electoral body as contenders for the primaries.

ODM national chairperson John Mbadi yesterday stated that they have been holding discussions with jubilee to support the ruling party’s quest to recapture the seat in the February 18th 2021 by-election. ” We will make the final communicationfrom in due course,” John Mbadi said

Mr Mbadi spoke as it emerged that the ODM national elections board failed to meet the Monday deadline for the submission of the party’s aspirants to the independent electoral and boundaries commission (IEBC).
