President Uhuru Kenyatta gave a stern warning to school heads as he spoke this morning. Uhuru Kenyatta while speaking on Gukena Radio on Monday January 18, warned that School heads should not send learners back home.

Uhuru Kenyatta was addressing the Central region as he spoke in his native Kikuyu language. He noted that there were schools who were sending students home due to fee balances.

He disclosed that the financial situation was hard and urged schools to not further the burden on parents by demanding money from them.

The President also asked Education Stakeholders to come together and give a helping hand to solve such situations.

Cabinet Secretary of Education George Magoha had ealier noted that there were some schools that had hiked fees. He mentioned that the move was wrong and detrimental to learners.

This comes as schools get into their third week after resuming. The schools closed down in March of 2020 amid the Covid19 pandemic.

The closure happened to affect most families as sources of income shrunk. This inhibited their finances and caused a headache when learners resumed.
