BBI Suffers Another Setback, Kang’ata Releases Another Missile

Despite the heavy voting by Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) in different Counties for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) , Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata still insisted it is not popular.
Speaking to Nation on Tuesday February 23, the former Senate Majority whip claimed that the numerous voted for the BBI should not be considered a win.
“There is no doubt that the car grant was very crucial in swaying the MCAs. We are still not at the point where we can exactly say the BBI is representative of the Mt Kenya people’s will. Even nationally we are not yet certain. County assemblies are not the people,” he told the Nation.
Kang’ata revealed that the car grants were the driving force behind the massive Yes votes that supported the BBI.
The Senator had earlier done a research of his own in his Murang’a County and said 6 out of 10 people did not agree with the document.
He also noted that after the parliamentary process, citizens will still shoot down the document even though most counties have adopted it.
Kang’ata had earlier had his letter to the President on the BBI leaked in December 30 2020. This led to him being demoted from the Senate Majority whip post earlier this year.
