Eating a healthy balanced diet can help people with diabetes manage their condition and reduce the complicated risks concerning their health. Being diabetic does not limit people from eating their favorite foods. These people can eat most foods, but may be required to eat some of them in smaller portions.

Here are some of the foods that should be avoided by them:

Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are best known to be important in energy giving, but people with diabetes should be mindful when choosing the carbs to eat.
They are divided into three main types;Fiber, Starch and Sugar

Directly, they affect the levels of blood glucose more than any other nutrients. The body breaks them down into glucose.
Diabetic persons does not have to avoid carbs completely, but all they need is to be sure that they are eating the right kind.

Persons with diabetes should limit their intake of unhealthful carbs and focus on healthful ones and also talk to their doctor about their carb intake to help keep track of how much they consume.
Carbs to avoid are these:
Any foods consisting of processed carbs and those that contain added sugars. They should be avoided as far as possible.

Persons with diabetes should also avoid white bread, cakes, muffins, and other baked foods containing white flour, white rice ,white pasta, cereals and crackers.
They should control their amount of sugar consumption and pay maximum attention to their starch intake.

Protein
These are body building foods. Their work is to maintain and replace body tissue. The organs in the body, immune system and muscles consist and are made of protein. The human body is capable of breaking down protein into sugar, but the process is less efficient than breaking down of carbs.
Just like carbs, people with diabetes should carefully choose their protein sources.

Consumption of meat, like beef, pork, and lamb, increases the risk of diabetes, even at small quantities or with low levels of consumption.
Replacing with other sources of protein such as poultry, fish, low-fat dairy or nuts, may cut the risk of diabetes by up to 35%.

Protein foods that are also high in fat are not recommended for many people with diabetes as they can cause weight gain and high levels of cholesterol.

Fats
Consuming unsaturated fats instead of saturated fats and trans fats can lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease. These are the fats to get rid of, and they include: Butter, Lard, oils such as palm oil, cream-based dressings or dips

Sugars
Sugary foods, sweets, and many desserts consist mostly of sugar. They often contain little to no nutritional value and can cause a sharp spike in blood glucose.

Sugar can also contribute to weight gain and the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Use whole fruit as a sweetener instead of added sugar
Artificial sweeteners can negatively affect gut bacteria and insulin sensitivity
Always be careful with serving sizes, eat small amount about five times a day to help balance blood sugar level.
Keep a food record to monitor your carbohydrate intake and blood sugar levels
