At least fifteen persons have been confirmed dead in a road accident that involved a minibus and bus at Kizingo area on the Mombasa-Malindi Highway.
According to the statement of the County commissioner Mr. Kutswa Olaka, about twenty-four of the passengers who were injured are being nursed at Malindi Sub-County Hospital.
The fatal accident took place on Wednesday, 7th of April, 2021 at round 7am in the morning which was confirmed by Peter Maina, the Coast Traffic police boss.
The bus which belonged to Muhsin Sacco, was heading to Garissa, when it was involved in a head-on collision with a minibus belonging to Sabaki Sacco, which was coming from Malindi heading towards Mombasa.
A number of bodies which are still trapped in the wreckages are yet to be identified.
Maina also confirmed that there are numbers of unidentified passengers who were in critical condition who were also rushed to the hospital.
By the time of the incident was published, the efforts of rescuing was still going on with some eyewitnesses indicating that the death toll could be rise according to the injuries sustained at the accident scene.
Investigation are still going on to figure out what could have possibly have caused the accident for it is not yet clear.
It is during the festive seasons that accidents become a normal happenings of the day.
It was believed that because of the lockdown measures, such incidents would be a thing of the past.
Relatives are yet to find out whether they have their own people involved in the grisly accident and the police too are waiting for calls from anyone reporting of their missing persons which could also make easy their work of identifying the bodies.
This is among the recent accidents that has claimed many lives at once.
