Manchester United failed to make the EFL Cup final after they went down to Manchester City. According to reports by BBC Sports on Wednesday January 6, 2021, Manchester United lost the game that was played at Old Trafford.

Manchester City and England national team defender was the first on the score sheet after a nice teamwork goal. The defender was let in by the Manchester United back line to score in the 50th minute.

The tempo increased in the second half with Manchester City controlling most of the game. Sleek passes and possession kept the Citizens on top of the game.

Manchester United missed chances as they tried to equalize despite having some of their own. The Red Devils would later be punished for failing to take their chances.

Manchester City captain Brazilian Fernandinho capitalized on a mistake and scored the second goal. The Brazilian registered his goal in the 83rd minute to dent the hopes of a United comeback.

Manchester United’s tradition of scoring in the final minutes were much difficult as the Citizens kept most of the ball.

Manchester City, who are holders of the cup, will now face Tottenham Hotspur who won their tie against Brentford on Tuesday night.
