Plans to start a University in Nyamira are underway, with various stakeholders pushing for the establishment.
Local leaders, county leaders and West Mugirango congregated in Riakimai, Bosamaro ward, West Mugirango constituency for a consultative meeting over the construction of the university.
Residents of Nyamira are optimistic that the government will set up a university that will boost the education sector in the area.
While addressing the press the chairman of the initiative Richard Ong’era, said that the University will boost the literacy levels, develop the area and create employment opportunities.
“We will borrow ideas from Kisii University and we are in consultation with them to ensure that the university is established according to the right protocol,”Ong’era asserted.
Area Sub chief disclosed that the community has unanimously agreed to donate 52 hectares of land for the establishment of the university.
The leaders urged the education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu to prioritize the area as the Kenya Kwanza government plans to improve education in the country.
