On Friday night January 1, Manchester United welcomed Aston Villa at the Old Trafford for a tight premier league clash. The two teams were eager to secure a win from that match. The hosts Man United ended up being advantaged over their visitors Aston Villa. United beat Villa 2-1 to take away the three points.

Man United still remain second in the premier league table with 33 points while Aston Villa are in sixth position with 26 points. The following is what was witnessed in that match.

1. Martial’s goal.

Anthony Martial netted for Manchester United in the 40th minute. This goal put the Red Devils ahead of their visitors before going for the half time break. Martial was assisted by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

2. Traore’s equalizer.

Aston Villa were lucky when they got an equalizer in the 58th minute through Bertrand Traore. They were brought back into the game.

3. Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.

Bruno Fernandes made it two for Manchester United from the penalty spot in the 61st minute. United were awarded that penalty after Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz tripped Paul Pogba in the penalty area. VAR had a check on that and the referee stayed with his initial call and therefore United got the penalty.

4. Aston Villa’s zero cards.

Despite being on the losing end, Aston Villa players played with calmness and none of them committed a serious foul worth to be booked by the referee. That’s how they ended the match without any player being shown a card by the referee.

5. Goalkeepers’ saves.

Both goalkeepers from the two sides were committed to save their teams from humiliation. Man United’s David De Gea made 4 saves while Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez made 7 saves.
